Minutes of the September 2019 Meeting

Our September 10, 2019, meeting was called to order by President Dave Thomson with 36 members present at Phil’s Philling Station. A motion was made by Pam Butler, and seconded by Mary Kay Thomson, to accept the secretary’s report from our March meeting as printed/posted on the website.  M/C.

The Treasurer’s report was given by Ron Schmocker Sr., and a motion was made by Mary Kay Thomson and seconded by Brian Fitzpatrick, to accept the report as given. M/C.

Trail report:

Dave mentioned Supplemental should be paid at 100% for last year. We have been doing necessary upkeep and repairs to our fleet of Tuckers, and they are ready.  Recently we downsized from our large tractor to one with a loader, forks and a mower.  The trade in of our former tractor left us with only a $6000 difference to make up.  The new tractor is easier to maneuver when working on maintaining the trails.  There is reimbursement from the Forest Service available for cleanup of storm damage, which should help pay off the cost difference.

Trail Boss Bob Prasser reported some trail cleanup is being done. Completed are the following sections; Maiden Lake to the Cemetery, the Golf Course to Hwy 32, and Forester to the Sandtrap.  Signs will need to be replaced in some areas.  The loggers coming in for storm damaged trees have done us some favors with trail clean up and future grooming.

Team Rubicon is a group of 100-150 workers who will be coming up to the area for about 10 days to work on clearing snowmobile trails. They will be based in Mountain.  Oconto County Snowmobile Alliance is donating $1000 towards food to feed these workers.  Volunteers from all the affected areas are being asked to help with serving meals and donations of food items.

AWSC Director Report by Kurt Butler:

Not much to report. AWSC will again hold their ticket raffle.  Only 450 tickets are available at $100 apiece.  Drawing is at Convention in Spring.  Contact Kurt if interested in a ticket.

AWSC Youth (KAOS) Program Report by Pam Butler:

KAOS looking for a youth from Oconto County.  Between the ages from 13 to 18, and information can be found on AWSC Website. The youth had a family camping week end the end of July and some are planning to attend the Wausau drag races. Our Volunteer Reward Program winner, of a $25 Shell Gas Card, was Jim Wisneski. Thanks to all the volunteers who worked at Snow Fun Day and either of the two Supervalu Brat Fry’s.

Jim Wisneski reported information from the Snow Council.  There are some funds available for storm damage.  There is a push to put GPS trackers in all groomers.  All Trail miles are to be GPS, which Oconto County has already done.  Snowmobile fatalities will be reported by calendar year rather than by season.  Signs will need to be replaced in the National Forest and must be on wooden posts not metal.

Snowmobile Safety Course will be held by Red Arrow and Paul Bunyan instructors on November 9, 2020, at the Red Arrow Club House. Members, Children or Grandchildren of members, of either club will have their class fee of $10 paid by their respective primary club.  See paulbunyanriders.com website for details.  Enrollment must be done on the DNR GoWild website.
